She Needed A Mirror In Her Guest Room So She Created A Gorgeous Sunburst Mirror For Just $20!
Mirror can be surprisingly expensive. But they’re great pieces that often brighten up a room and give it a pulled together look.
Ashley at Domestic Imperfection had just set up a stone wall in her guest bedroom, and she wanted to put something up on the wall above the bed. She already had gold side tables, so she decided a glamorous gold trimmed mirror would be perfect.
She shopped around online and saw absolutely stunning mirrors. But of course they were all way out of her price range! She saw a sunburst mirror that would be perfect for the room, and then realized, “That would be so easy to make.”
So she made it, and for a cool $20. She bought a regular round mirror from Hobby Lobby for 50% off, three 5/16” wooden dowels, four ¼” dowels, and six 3/16” dowels.
First, remove the mirror from the frame and set it aside. On the back of the mirror frame, create a ‘pizza pie’ so the dowels will be evenly spaced.
Ashley cut the 5/16” dowels into eight pieces, the ¼” dowels into 24 pieces, and the 3/16” dowels into 36 inch pieces.
She started gluing all the dowels into place, starting with the thickest ones.
Then she primed and painted the whole mirror frame in gold. When it’s dry, the mirror can be put back into its frame.
Because Ashley already had the Kilz primer and Rustoleum gold spray paint, her whole project came together for just under $20!
It looks so amazing on the stone wall of her guest room, and guests will be totally flattered that such a gorgeous piece is in their room!
